Table 6 of 10 in the Math Engine 28-day challenge
The 6 times table builds on tables you already know
You do not have to learn the 6s from scratch. Six is double three, so for 6 × 7 you can double 3 × 7 = 21 and get 42. Or use the 5s and add one more group: 5 × 7 = 35, plus 7 is 42. Two routes to the same answer is a good way to check yourself.
Patterns in the 6 times table
6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60
- The ones digits repeat a loop of five: 6, 2, 8, 4, 0, and then again 6, 2, 8, 4, 0.
- Multiply 6 by an even number and the answer ends in that same digit. 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48.
- Every answer is even.
When you pause
If you hesitate on something like 6 × 7 or 6 × 8, don’t just wait for the answer to appear. Build it out loud with one of the routes above, and then carry on with the video. Rebuilding an answer a few times is part of the practice.
Test yourself
After the video, check what stuck. Math Engine gives you ten questions on the 6 times table, a hint after each answer, and a review round for the ones you missed. It is free and needs no sign-up.
