If you like saving online articles, cooking recipes, or guides so you can read them anytime, even when you do not have an internet connection, Backup Engine makes the process quick and painless.
It is a free program for Windows that downloads complete web pages with all their photos and saves them straight to your normal Downloads folder.
In this guide, you will learn how to find and install the app from the Microsoft Store and how to adjust the screen settings so it is comfortable to use.
Step 1: Open the Microsoft Store
You do not need to download strange setup files from unknown websites. Backup Engine is safely distributed through Windows:
- Click the Start menu (the Windows icon on your taskbar).
- Type Store and open the Microsoft Store app.
- Click the search bar at the top of the window, type Backup Engine, and press
Enter.
Step 2: Install the App
- Look for Backup Engine in the search results and click on it.
- Click the blue Get (or Install) button.
- Windows will download and install the program automatically in less than a minute.
Step 3: Open Backup Engine
Once the download finishes:
- Click the Open button directly inside the Microsoft Store, or find Backup Engine in your Windows Start menu list.
- When the application opens, you will see a clean, straightforward window:
- An input box at the top where you can paste any link.
- A big Start Download button.
- A status area that shows progress when you download a page.
Step 4: Make the Screen Comfortable (Theme & Zoom)
Before saving your first page, you can adjust the appearance to match your personal preference:
- Switch to Dark Mode: Click the THEME button in the top menu to toggle between a bright white look and a comfortable dark look. Dark mode is especially helpful if you are working at night or want to rest your eyes.
- Make Text Bigger: If the letters look a bit small on your screen, click the ZOOM button. You can switch between regular size (100%), medium (110%), and large (130%) so everything is easy to read without straining.
Step 5: Where Your Saved Files Go
You do not have to worry about complicated folder paths or settings:
- Every time Backup Engine saves a page, it automatically creates a neat folder inside your normal Windows Downloads folder.
- Inside that folder, you will find your saved page and all of its images.
- To open a saved article, simply double-click the file, and it will immediately open in your regular web browser without needing any internet connection.
You are all set! Your app is installed, configured, and ready to save your favorite reading material whenever you need it.
