Whether you are studying a foreign language, collecting short quotes, or building audio flashcards in tools like Anki, having quick access to clean audio snippets is incredibly helpful.
Traditionally, turning text from a webpage into an audio file meant copying the sentence, visiting a third-party text-to-speech converter, dealing with pop-ups, and navigating download restrictions.
With Reader Engine installed on Firefox, you can grab any sentence from any site and download it straight to your computer as a standalone .mp3 file with a single click.
Step 1: Highlight the Sentence You Want to Save
- Browse to any webpage or online document in Firefox.
- Select the phrase, quote, or sentence you want to convert into audio using your mouse.
- The text will highlight in yellow, and the dark Reader Engine toolbar will pop up right below it.
Step 2: Click the Download Button
In the floating toolbar, you will see three action icons:
- Click the 📥 (Download MP3) icon in the middle.
Step 3: Choose Where to Save Your MP3 File
Because Reader Engine triggers a direct download through Firefox:
- A standard Windows “Save As” window will appear.
- The file is automatically named with your selected language and a snippet of your text (for example,
reader_en-US_Hello_world.mp3). - Pick your preferred folder (such as your
Downloadsfolder) and click Save.
Step 4: Listen to Your Audio Anywhere
Your audio clip is now saved locally on your hard drive:
- Double-click the file to listen in your default media player.
- You can drag the
.mp3file into language learning apps, attach it to digital study notes, or transfer it to your phone to listen offline anytime.
No registrations, no external converters, and no ads, just pure audio whenever you need it.
